Pro-Abortion Money from Out of State Buys Virginia’s Election

In a very sad turn of events, despite a hard-scrabble ground game organized by Virginia Society for Human Life (VSHL) and other pro-life groups in the Commonwealth—built on the donations of average citizens—abortion proponents won new seats in the House and Senate giving them control of the General Assembly.

Sadly, several Republican seats were lost in the Senate giving pro-abortion candidates control there too.

Outside pro-abortion groups, including Planned Parenthood, NARAL and Emily’s List poured millions into races all over the state in order to help pro-abortion candidates flip control of the General Assembly and give it to pro-abortion advocates.  Their goal is to force through the same radical abortion agenda in 2020 that failed in the 2019 General Assembly session.

“Given this outcome, it is very soon likely that Virginia will follow in the footsteps of New York with passage of a radical abortion agenda that strips away all the protective, reasonable laws concerning abortion that are already on the books in Virginia and prevent any new laws. Governor Northam has promised to sign such a New York-style law,” said Olivia Gans Turner, VSHL president.

“Another frightening factor of this election is that the pro-abortion ERA will likely pass and the laws that prevent taxpayer funding of abortion will ultimately be stripped away permanently, requiring all Virginians to pay for abortion in the future,” said Turner

“VSHL will do all that can be done to continue to protect helpless unborn children and their mothers from the violence of abortion.” said Turner.

Virginia Society for Human Life is the oldest state-wide pro-life organization in the nation with chapters throughout the Commonwealth supporting life issues and the Virginia affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee.
